Mother's Group in Soddo Has First Meeting

GGRF is very proud to not only invest in our Athletic Scholars, but also their communities. We recently shared stories of our Mothers’ Savings Groups in Bekoji. These women changed the trajectory of their families through training, seed money, and social networks provided by our program.

Based on the success of our program in Bekoji, we are excited to share that the mothers in Soddo are taking the first steps towards building their own Mothers’ Group.

Our program manager, Kidist, laid the groundwork in the fall and a group comprised of 32 mothers of GGRF Athletic Scholars gathered in December 2022. The women came together to share their stories of motherhood and offer support to one another.

The group of GGRF mothers named themselves MALALA, meaning AMAZING. The group plans on meeting twice a month to hold discussions. As with our Athletic Scholars, the Mothers will share leadership responsibilities on a rotating basis.

In time, we hope the group will grow into a more structured Entrepreneurship & Savings Group. We are so happy to see the start of a support structure for these AMAZING women.
